We've been looking at local ads for ones for sale and we aren't having much luck unfortunately.
We're hoping to get a beardie with a complete enclosure.
Every ad we see either has dirty sand for substrate and/or coil UVb lighting. I know how bad both of these are and I don't want her to get a dragon that could possibly have health problems because of one or both of these.
WHY CAN'T PEOPLE TAKE CARE OF THEIR DRAGONS PROPERLY ESPECIALLY IF THEY ARE NOT GOING TO KEEP THEM IN THE LONG RUN!!
I'M SO FRUSTRATED AT INEXPERIENCED OWNERS RIGHT NOW.
Thanks for letting me vent.
I'm going to suggest to her that she get a baby from a good breeder and raise it from young to ensure a healthy pet instead of gettting an adult.
I agree with getting one as a baby... The last thing you want is to get attached to a beardie that has possible health problems from neglect... That will be both heart breaking and costly! Spend the money on getting a beardie from a reputable breeder! I recommend www.rockingardragonz.com That's where I got my first boy from and he is awesome and kind and very healthy!

The expo is on this sunday in Mississauga. May be a nice selection there.
So why do you want to get the dragon and enclosure as a package deal? To save money? The chances of finding the perfect enclosure with the proper amentities and the right pet to boot are slim to none. Its almost like finding a resale home with all the colours and features you want without having to change a thing. No wonder your frustrated.
If you end up having to buy a new viv check out Atasuki. I am very impressed with the quality to price ratio. 4' viv out my way is $230..
Are coiled UVB bulbs bad for beardie? I am getting ready to adopt an adult beardie. He has a hood for tank already that holds two bulbs. Instead of purchasing a new hood for UVB tube light, I thought I could use 2 Reptisun coiled bulbs - each bulb would be 10. What are your thoughts?
I wish I could go to the Reptile Expo. It sucks working night shift on the weekend and having to sleep during the day when so many fun activities happen.
Then again, if I go, I'll be so tempted to get one for myself and frankly 6 is enough.
we have 15 (different reptiles and most dont share a tank except for 4 little water dragons in a 55 gal) and i dont think it's too bad, despite that 6 are beardies
Electric bill isn't too bad... It could be worse... If I had the space, time and money I'd probably have more. That is if I could sneak them passed the b/f while he is sleeping. Although in the summer I would like to get my 15 y/o a uromastyx so that would be yet another heat bulb burning...
Actually.. my electric bill normally runs about $79 in the winter... I got my first Beardie and my electric bill the next month was $104. I almost puked.. but that didn't stop me from getting a second beardie. So I closed my eyes opening my bill this month and it was only $85!!!! Come to find out.. my daughter was keeping her electric space heater on all day while we weren't home... told me her room was 'too cold' when she got home from school... Ask me if I flipped out LOL
