Mushuu doesn't seem to like mealworms, what can I do?When I got him/her I was given 2 tubs of small crickets which it ate very rapidly. So the next food I bought was mealworm for variety. However, despite only buying 1 tub of mealworm they've lasted 3 weeks and are now pupating into the next stage of life.Mushuu has been eating them but not very many, only enough to maintain life.I'm getting more crickets cos he/she seems to prefer these but I'd like it to have variety.
I hear that meal worms aren't the best thing to give a dragon as a staple because they have a very chitinous shell and not that much flesh so are potentially hard to digest.
Crickets are the best staple seasoned with calcium dust, though locusts are good every once in a while if you can find ones small enough (though they are expensive.) Waxworms are also good if you want to provide variety but be very cautious with them because they are very fatty and really do cause the dragons to pile on the grams.
Meal worms are ok sometimes but not as a staple.
P.S. it may help to keep meal worms in an area with a low temperature which will slow down their metabolism and hopefully stop them from pupating.
hope this helps.
edited a spelling mistake... no biggie, i just don't like incorrect grammar, least of all from myself.
Thanks for the advice.I know Mushuu really likes crickets cos he/she goes through about 20-30 every 2 days.I'll bear in mind the tips about mealworm. My dragon is very healthy and lively eating crickets so I'll stick with those till it's bigger.
