Ok, Tohru has coccidia but the only symtom is her food is not being digested well. She has not seemed to be loseing any weight infact I think she is getting bigger. I have done my own fecal float and found the coccidia, and I am going to get albon 5% from beautifuldragons.com.
I have read that Albon can dehydrate them so what is a good way of keeping them hydrated? I know a bath is the best thing to do but I have only given her one bath and she freaked out so bad she almost drown! Can I feed her cucumber instead since it is almost completly water anyway?
Also how do you give them the medication? Can you put in on their nose for them to lick it off or mix it in baby food? I really dont want to force her mouth open to get it in since she is still unsure of even being picked up. I dont want her to hate me.
Also I have a thing of bene-bac to use to try to rebuild the good bacteria but I dont know when to use it.
Sorry for all the question but since I lost little Drago I am a little over causes with Tohru.
Well, if she did not like her bath, then sometimes it is best to avoid them if they get that stressed.
Try using a plastic dropper or syringe to get oral fluids into her if she isn't getting a bath. You can drop the meds on her nose to see if she will lick the meds off that way, or a spoon, she may lick that as well.
You may also mix it with baby food, too to mask the flavor. Albon is very bitter flavored!
The Benebac you can begin to use it on the same day that you start the Albon. I would give the Albon in the morning, before she eats, so it gets into her system. Then, you can feed her.
Later in the day, you can give her the probiotic while she is all warmed up.
Let us know how she is doing. At least she is not losing any weight right now!
