Hello everyone, I'm new to posting here, but I've been taking info and inspiration from you guys for a while now. I decided tonight that it's time to introduce myself, and my dragon, Leonidas. I'm looking to reading and posting more in the future!
I'm using a big Powersun. I have a large UTH for at night, but I stopped using it because the house stays warm enough, and he was staying away from the UTH. I have some other plans in the works for the enclosure, but he loves his log so much that I don't have the heart to take it out yet.
Your welcome, That's a good 2n1 light. UTH's are frowned on here I've noticed, even your bd stayed away from it. I use CHE's (30 & 75w 1 or the other or both) to keep it above 60f for the cold nights. They're going to give you crap about the substrate your using. We had fine shavings when we started now it's ceramic tile.
Yeah, you can't keep everyone happy. I may eventually go to tile, I'm going to be cutting some stone and making his house more 3D. I may do tile then. For now, the pellets are great, and they are digestible just in case. The UTH hasn't been on in a couple weeks, it stays about 75 in here at night anyway.
The reason UTH's are not recommended is the same for heat rocks - beardies can't feel heat with their bellies and get burned easily on the UTH's (they get very very hot!). When I first put in one for my second leopard gecko, it was out putting 115 when they want 85-88. Hope that helps and can't wait for more pics.
Out of curiosity, what do you mean by making his viv more 3D? I only ask because that sounds really awesome.
I too am new at owning these amazing creatures I also have a very small UTH but it's underneath all my pyramid of rocks so it's not really like Daenerys is laying directly on it... there's several gaps it's just helping with a little warmth.
Thanks My gf gets all the credit, she's a photographer/designer.
To make it more 3D, I've got some rough stone tiles, and I'm going to cut them into smaller pieces, then use them to build him a nice double staircase and a large balcony. He runs, climbs, and jumps all over in there, so I just want to make it more interesting and stimulating for him.
I am in agreement for the UTH, it'll be staying off I'm sure.
I love the pix!!!! Does your Beardie Have MBD? It just looks like his lower jaw sticks out a little further than the top and if I remember it was a symptom of metabolic bone disease. I love the random pic of the crate at first I was like WAIT A MINUTE then i saw what you did bravo!!!!
That crate turned stand is really creative and different.. your beardie is a big ham.. that second pic should def. be in the 2014 bd.org calendar.. wicked cute..
What a cutie! Welcome to the forum and I love what you've done with that crate. I've been thinking about building a stand for my tank. However... it's a 125 gallon long so it's a bit difficult to find anything that spans that wide and long. XD
I hope you have many years of fun and happiness with him!
