My bearded dragon has appeared to start brumating and I am a little worried. She hasn’t eaten or pooped in a while and am worried that she might be sick. I recently put in a climbable background and she climbed up to the top corner and has barely moved since.

How old is she?
I always recommend getting a sample of poop to drop off at the vet for a float test. (Just in case of a parasite load) but otherwise brumation is a natural thing for them. If that is what she wants kust follow her lead 🙂

She looks OK based on the photos. She may have times that shes fast asleep for days on end. Also times when she wakes up a bit. This and then total length of brumation and time of year seems to vary a lot between them so you'll have to monitor her and just kind of take notes to compare to herself year over year. Another good thing to do is keep a log of her weight. When she is awake and somewhat alert you can take a quick weight measurement and maybe offer a little bit of water (don't force it, but make a drink available if she wants). The weight log will help you determine if her weight is stable or not. She might lose a little bit of weight over brumation, but it shouldn't be a significant downward trend. My guy would lose about 4-5% body weight over a few months, but this may also vary between them.

Hey! I'm planning on ordering a 4x2x2 for my next beardie but I'm worried about lighting. I have a UVA and a UVB but they are small (the UVA just being a bulb and the UVB being 12 ish inches?) My house is drafty so I need a strong light that puts off quite a good amount of heat, any suggestions?
