first brumation

hi,
i am a bit confused because my beardie will brumate this year for the first time( same time last year she was a baby).
i can see the signs of brumation, she is calmer and spends days in her hide sleeping, thats why im confused she comes out every few days and basks for few days. i turned down the temperatures in her tank but left her basking area at 36 celcius because she still has not pooped like she needs to before going to sleep. i also tried bathing her but she does not poop. she began eating less about a month ago and she will still snack on veggies. im worried and do not know how to get her to poop and brumate properly. does anyone have any advice or experience?

Hi there, I've had dozens of dragons brumate for the past 25 years or more and never worried about that. I know that some people claim that they need to do the last poo but it really isn't true. Beardies brumate when they feel the urge and unless they are obviously sick, emaciated or very small/young then there should be no problem.

Beardies won't always go into full brumation, especially the first one. I've had some that never did, and some that go right down. Just follow her lead, she knows what she wants. As long as she is still willing to bask continue to offer some food and hydration.

I agree, a lot of them wont go into a full brumation for their first or second year. I have had one in the past
who went into full brumation for months, at 6 months of age. He was perfectly fine but when he went in, his
weight was very good & he lost virtually no weight at all.
Just keep track of her weight & hydration status to be sure it is stable. Since she is a year old or so, & seems perfectly healthy you can let her sleep & relax for awhile & see how she does.
