For about a year, I've been working on a background for my beardie. Over the last weekend, I finished it and I got my dad to spray it with a sealant that he was using for his motorcycle parts. I was a little worried because I was sure it would be toxic. We had some problems fitting it into his tank because of the rim around the top, so we ended up taking it off. After that it still didn't fit so we trimmed it down quite a bit. Now that it's in his tank, theres a strong chemically odor coming off from it, and im not sure whether to put him back in or not.
Is there anything I can do to get rid of the odor? And if the odor is gone, is there still a possibility of there being a problem?
Put the viv in a draughty place and in sunlight if possible. Take the background out and let it cure properly for about a week. There shouldn't be a problem once it's dried, but make sure there are no little chips or flaking pieces. Once the sealant has dried properly, buy a water based sealant and reseal the whole thing. Water based sealers are cheap and non-toxic and they also dry very quickly.
