Hello everyone, Im attending an expo in Oaks,pa,on saturday! I'm not getting a beardie yet, though.I was wondering, will they have wood basking spots, and calicum powder, and STUFF other than lizards there?I think so, right?
also, when I do get my beardie,do I really have to put him/her in a 20 gallon,or can I put him/her in my 40 breeder right away?
And,if you got a beardie from an expo, what was your experience, and what to look out for?
But most expos have things such as cages, lights (sometimes fixtures too), driftwood pieces, supplements, feeders and just about anything you would need to set up a lizard. Now will they have ALL of these? Possibly, but probably not depending on how big it is.
As far as the tank goes and what size. It depends on the size of bearded you get. If you get a baby, it's usually better for them to not have a huge tank compared to their size. This is because a little beardy could get very stressed coming to a new place and being in such an open space. It also allows it to find bugs easier, allowing it to eat better making it a healthier lizard. Could you stick it in a huge 40g tank for a 6-9" beardy, sure. Just make sure whichever you use you see it eating, basking and getting it's water.
When buying one at the show, you want to get one that doesn't seem to have any physical problems such as legs/tails twisted, any wounds, just anything that doesn't look right. Make sure it can walk properly. Along with it being bright-eyed and alert. Unless of course you want to save one in not such good condition, which is also fine. But that's not recommended unless you absolutely know for sure you can handle whatever problems it has.
Good luck finding your beardy even if you don't get it at this show!
I have done this show in the past, I will not be vending at this one. To answer your questions there will be dry good vendors there, but get there early. This is a small show and the vendors stock accordingly.
If you can make it to that show and you do not get a dragon this time around Im right in Philadelphia and your welcome to come pick out a dragon from My breeder bins.
Tom
Thank you!I dont want to sound rude,or ignorant, but I don't think I can handle rescuing one, yet, this is my first reptile, and im buying everything before hand to make sure I know what Im doing!
I had a chance to get a free beardie from my fave petstore, but i choose not to,because it needed alot of vet care, its not about money,or looks, but i don't think i would be able to give it the best care just yet
And Thanks Tom, I will definitely keep in touch! I am waiting so I have alot of free time,I work part time and a full time college student,so I want to wait alittle longer for when I have more time to focus on my bearide
