Rufus is about 3 years old. He has an injury that resulted in him losing a toe. He's currently needing an ointment (Gentocin) on the wound daily to help it heal. Rufus has only known loose substrate. Tonight I took out the sand and replaced it with Shelf-liner and a layer of Newspaper on top. Now it's bedtime and Roo is trying to dig himself a hole to sleep in...to no avail! Now he's peeking out from behind his branch staring at me like, "What the heck, Mom!?"
I feel so bad for him
Curious as to whether any of you have ever had an adjustment period while changing substrate?
Well I had to come back this morning to say that Roo LOVED the blanket idea. I gave him a soft hand towel and bunched it up under his favorite sleep spot. This morning when I checked on him he had buried his head under it and had his little body hanging out.
Thank you SO much for the idea.
I've noticed some of you have cozy's for your beardie - where do you get them? I know I have one for my Quaker Parrot, is that the same thing you use?
I know i always thought it was weard a reptile loving soft comfy stuff. I think it makes them so comfortable and loved! Another thing my daughter does this is , if its clean she will rub it on herself so it has her sent on it. He seams to love that.
What a sweet story about your beardie with the blanket. There is actually someone right here on bd.org that makes the nicest fleece beardie blankets. Her name is Dawn(blondie098) and she does beautiful embroidery work also. I bought one from her at Christmas and my bd absolutely loves it. Here is the thread in the for sale forum [ Invalid URL Removed / p= t=94949 f=2 ]. Take a peek.... she has pics.
Hi Karnagia. I'm glad you liked the blankie idea. That will be neat if you order one from dawn. I haven't done that yet. I'm waiting for him to get a little larger. I'm still just using one of those small microfiber dust cloths. Dawn's blankies are adorable though.
When Nibs was not on sand, she used to run around the tiles trying to dig holes everywhere. Every night she would go to her corner and "dig" a hole, then go to sleep. I felt bad, but it was pretty funny.
I ordered blankies for my two from Dawn - can't wait to get them. I've heard great things from people on here about them.
