I bought a juvinile dragon at a herp show yesterday and have some questions about feeding him. I gave him seven or eight crickets as soon as we got home yesterday and he ate them very quickely. He pooed in the afternoon (so I know he is not impacted) and I fed some more crickets in the evening, which he again ate very quickely. But this morning I put more in his aquarium (55 gallon) and he does not seem at all interested and it has been over an hour. Is this normal and can I leave the crickets in there for him to find when he does get hungry?
It's normal, you can expect his eating habits to be a bit off for the first week or so. Once he starts eating again, he should be allowed to have as many as he wants 2-3x a day. (This can be up 35-50 per feeding if you're feeding appropriate sizes. Bulk online ordering is your friend!) However, you cannot leave the crickets in his tank with him. They are carnivorous and will think nothing of taking a bite out of your dragon. It's generally easier to feed in a seperate tank or rubbermaid tote.
