Oh, I couldn’t help but write about baking.
In our family, everyone just loves the Christmas stollen, what a pity that in our area you can only buy it at Christmas.
And no one knows the recipe.

A little secret for you! I've found stollen at Aldi all year round.

Then this has changed, or depends on the state (if in the US), maybe? I have seen Stollen only from end of November on in the US Aldi (at least until a year ago, when I left the US). Also in Germany, only from end of November on.

Regarding the states, I can only say for California and for Tennessee - that's where they only have it after Thanksgiving. (Was checking the Aldi ad weekly also for other things and visited the store about once a month or in case I'd like something from the ad also in between.) Their Stollen is imported from Germany.
Where have you seen it all year round, if you'd like to tell? (For those who travel around a bit and might want to get one somewhere else.)

I'm located in Kansas, I can't say for other places though. And possibly only a fluke or one location. My parents were the ones who found it.

Thanks for the info! But there is no Aldi in my city. But I think it's good to have a Christmas treat just for Christmas.

A quick web search turned up a few places INCLUDING a German bakery here in town!
When I get a chance I'm going to check it out. That might actually be a cool Christmas present to give out. I doubt most folk on my list has ever tried it.

It is quite difficult and takes a long time to prepare, but it is worth it!

I find it difficult to say how and with what it should be eaten, according to tradition, so I will tell you how we do it in our family. Usually, in the evening, I prepare hot mulled wine with orange zest, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom and candied fruit. And we sit at the family table and drink mulled wine with stollen. It is very tasty, especially when it is cold outside and there is a snowstorm.

I have friends coming over in a couple hours so I can't track it down this evening but I hope I can tomorrow. (Christina and I have started a routine of going for Cuban food on Sundays, her boys are 1/2 Cuban) so hopefully while we are out doing that I can find that German bakery!
