Hello! This is only my second post here, and I'm very worried this time. For the past approximately 1 week, my baby (not actually a baby, she is about 2 years old) has had one of her eyes closed. I took a recommendation from my local pet store to get her an eye solution called vetericin. (Not sure on the spelling) Well, last night I noticed her eye had opened back up while she was in the bath, and it looks completely white. In the light it looks more of a greenish color. While feeding her today I tested whether she can see out of that eye, and she definitely cannot. I'm of course bringing her to the vet asap, but I'm wondering what could have happened? I will try to add a picture in the comments when I can. For a uvb light she has the 34" reptisun 10.0 and it is about 9 inches away from her baking spot. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Has she run into anything that you know of? It looks like it may have gotten infected at some point but if she's having trouble seeing and it's just one eye, it could be a trauma related cataract. I'd try to keep it clear by flushing with plain saline solution. Some people have had good luck treating eye injuries with manuka or raw/unpasteurized honey which is a natural antimicrobial. Might be worth trying to apply some of that, but I'd definitely have a vet check it out as soon as you can. Especially if it's bothering her and her vision is impaired.
