Hello,

That is a bit odd. Is there anything in the tank that could be getting in his eye, or a blanket that is shedding?
Tracie
No, not at all. Nothing inappropriate in rank or even in the house. The bottom lid on the affected eye has a black line that def looks different/more pronounced than his unaffected eye. Tracie, this is so frustrating. My husbandry is impeccable.

Maybe a corneal scratch from him scratching at his eye, rubbing it on something, or a tiny piece of shed or fiber? (youd think the vets would see that though but idk). A corneal scratch is painful and would cause him to close the eye and also cause the sticky eye but it will heal on its own normally. Or an allergy to something..is there anything new in your house or tank since January when the issue started?

Thank you for your thoughts and ideas. Nothing new in the tank nothing new in my house. We’ve already had multiple visits to the exotic vet. We also had a consult with an ophthalmological specialist there is definitively no corneal scratches they see no infection in the eye. It’s just a terrible mystery. Thank goodness he’s eating normally his mentation is fairly normal. It’s annoying to him, but otherwise his health is good. I just keep looking and hoping we can find what’s going on.

Hello,

It has to be frustrating indeed when nothing has seemed to work so far.
Since there doesn't seem to be any scratch or infection perhaps it is just a bacterial issue. Has the raw honey helped at all
I am glad to hear however, that he is eating normally right now & it doesn't seem to be bothering him at the moment. He seems healthy!
Let us know if there are any changes.

We already went though one round of antibiotics my other thought is it possibly a bacteria that was resistant to original antibiotic?

Hello,

It is always possible that it could be bacteria that is
resistant to treatment. What medications has he
been on in the past?

I have yet another follow up with exotic vet tomorrow. We are about the same. My goal is to try to see if she can get a really good look up inside his mouth where the nasolacrimal gland drains into the top of the mouth and see how that looks. Poor guy this is killing me to see him with this dragging on.

Hello,

Let us know how the vet visit goes.
It could possibly be a clogged sinus or lacrimal gland which has some built up bacteria. So sorry that
it keeps dragging on for him.
I hope he is doing better soon!

I switched to cleaning with cooled previously boiled water and a qtip yesterday. My friends from the rescue thought saline to drying. I’m grateful no bulging in eye area but it’s definitely hurting him. His whole mentation is much quieter, but he is still basking and eating. My rescue gal friends think possibly a clogged lacrimal gland too but I don’t see a big increase in mucous/eye watering when he eats. No mouth gaping other than truly occasional when he is basking. That would concern me even more.

Hello,

Did you get him to the vet appointment this week, if so, how did that go?
There have been a few cases where there was a clogged gland causing issues.
I am happy to hear his demeanor is good & that he is basking normally as well.

Yes, I was in the exotic vet yesterday. She looked all the way in the back of the mouth to the nasolacrimal area looks good. There was no issues. She took a corneal sample. Hoping to get results on Tuesday I am just using cold sterilized water now to wipe that’s it.

He is eating and basking regularly. He is more active and seems more comfortable the past few days. It is not stuck together at all even when he wakes up since I discontinued saline and ophthalmic eye rinse. I am just using cooled boiled water on a Q-tip to get off any mucus which is less pronounced. Hopefully we’ll get some answers from labs or it will just resolve at some point. If we don’t get any answers from the panel with the bacteria, then we’ll do the full panel including fungal. I don’t know maybe it is a shed issue?

Hello,

That is great he is eating & more active as well as basking too. I hope his eye is feeling better. A shedding
issue seems the best scenario instead of some clogged duct!
At least the boiled water seems to be working a little better than the sterile saline solution right now.

Sir Henry the dragon
Looking for his dragon girl
Ventures out in to the wide world
His hopes are up but as you can see
There is no dragon girl for Sir Henry
A light bulb goes off and he takes mom aside
Could you perchance get me a mail order bride ?

Hey! We’re the same age! That’s cool!
Hi there a little update we went from a 50 watt heat lamp to a 100 watt basking halogen heat lamp hahaha I saw some comments about it being so close so I made sure to put it a ruler away from her
Has anyone seen this before? Something in the corner of his mouth
