Hi everyone,
My beardie has recently been having issues with one of her eyes. Sometimes it'll be fine, other times it gets stuck shut. I've looked at as many posts as possible about this issue. It is not yellow or pus-like. Her eye is not red in any way. I clean it with a Q-tip soaked in water and sometimes whatever is making her eye stick will come off. It just looks like eye gunk, or eye boogers (if you prefer), like the things we clean from our own eyes.
I thought it was just something with her shedding, but when she finished her shed, it was still getting stuck sometimes. The only thing that looks odd-ish is that it looks as though the eyelids on this eye aren't as thin as her other ones? But again, they aren't inflamed or anything, not hot to the touch (she's very patient), it just looks like they're bigger than the other ones. You can only tell if you're looking directly at her eye and you compare between the two.
Any advice on how to get rid of it? She doesn't seem like she's in pain, just sometime a little uncomfortable, and that's only evidenced by her itching it from time to time, but not very often.
It's possible that there is some shed around the eye that hasn't come off yet and is causing irritation. I'd keep the eye clean with some saline for the time being and keep a lookout for any shed around the eyes. Also watch her mouth for increased mucous that would possibly indicate a larger issue such as infection.
What type of saline would you recommend? I have contact saline that's bio true (supposed to match the pH of healthy tears) and it says it's multi purpose. I've seen others say no contact solution whatsoever.
I don't suggest using contact solution, just plain saline. I used Sensitive Eyes Plus from Bausch & Lomb but a store brand basic saline solution would work as well. I found that if you can get a Monoject curved syringe it helps a bit too.
