i'm using exo-terra lights for my new beardie, they are (26w, Repti-glo, 10.0 UVB) and (75w, Sun-glo, tight beam) for basking spot. Now are these okay for her? there are differnt products that are called the samething. I REALLY WANT TO BE SURE THAT SHE IS GETTING THE RIGHT STUFF! your help would be great............thanks, Jason
For the heat bulb, all you need is something that puts off bright clear (not coloured) light, and enough heat to get your temperatures where they need to be (100-110*F basking spot, 80*F cool side). The bulb you're using now is fine, but a household light bulb or a halogen flood light from the hardware store does the same job and will cost you less.
For the UVB light - is it a coil bulb or a long tube bulb? The coil bulbs have been known to cause a variety of problems and should generally be avoided. If it a tube bulb, you'll want to add a second regular flourescent tube alongside it since the reptiglo 10.0 has been known to cause eye problems after it was initially released. I'm not sure if these problems have been fixed yet and it's better safe than sorry - putting a bright light beside the tube reptiglo 10.0 eliminates the eye problems. The best flourescent tube UVB light is the reptiSUN 10.0, then the reptiSUN 5.0 and reptiGLO 8.0 are both decent (the reptiGLO 8.0 isn't known to cause any eye issues).
Hope this helps, feel free to ask any questions you have.
Yeah, none of the lights I recommended have been linked to eye problems I pointed out the reptiglo 8.0 specifically because it's the same brand as the reptiglo 10.0 which does cause problems and there can be confusion. The 8.0 of that brand is fine, the 10.0 has been a bit buggy. The reptiSUN 10.0 is a totally safe bet, tested and true.
thanks for the feed back....Jason, though i'm kindof still confused because people on here just say reptisun or reptiglo but not the company!
Exo-Terra has three kinds of UVB lights and they are called Repti-Glo 2.0, Repti-Glo 5.0 and Repti-Glo 10.0) Now ZooMed also have UVB lights that have the Repti part at the beginning and it can be a bit confusing. Maybe people should go by company name first!
Now i do understand that ZooMed, ReptiSun- 10.0 product is the type that has not been linked to problems and is the one that everyone seems to have or want! Where i live they are hard to find! Please can anyone tell me if Exo-terra compact is the kind that have caused eye and other problems?
You can purchase the Zoo MEd Repti-Sun 10.0 UVB light from Pet Mountain at http://www.petmountain.com/product/fluorescent/504983/zoo-med-reptisun-10.0-uvb-bulb.html, just choose your size, they are the cheapest on the net and if you get it shipped ground, it is coming from CA so depending on where you are - it may take up to a week. I live in FL and it took one week from the day I ordered it, but I ordered it on a Thursday or Friday and it shipped the following Monday.
Which MVB did you get? The only ones I know of that are good is the Mega Ray; T-rex (developed by the same person that makes the Mega Ray) and one other, a solar, something
Most say MVB's (like megaray) are the best uvb lights to get. But you need a large enough enclosure (no smaller than a 40 gallon breeder tank) to use one. There also is a basking distance that should be adhered to.
