Taco is clearly enjoying that the sun through the window now starts to give him more and more heat :)
Was nice to catch that and to take the photos during day, just had an earlier shift so home 1pm.

The summer day...
Okay, technically, we're still in winter here :D Spring starts in a week.
Despite it's always warm here, now it's getting hot (and we're approaching a week of holidays for which traditionally events similar to country fairs happen, ice cream is eaten, so our "winter" ... ;) ). Will check the temp up there now more regularly and like last year then move his basking lamps a bit.

I'm always amazed at how well his color matches the background.
Yes :) And still, he can also do "the tree bark" when he sits there. Then he gets grey with dark brown, just like the bark.
It's funny, still at his size I sometimes don't see him immediately even when he's quite out in the open because he's camouflaging so well.

He does. And I am happy that he didn't mind the construction noise very much that was down the street today.
(He'd clearly heard it and identified it as unusual, as I saw him tilting this head when a truckload of sand and stones was dumped - clearly a "no, I (me the human) won't sit on the balcony today" kind of noise. But no stress marks or similar. Like it how well he adjusted to that noises can just happen and won't mean anything dramatic.)

They seem to do good with sound. They only thing that bothers guys much are helicopters. Otherwise they notice but just shrug most sounds off.

Mine doesn't like sounds either. Once I had to make a hook for a UV light and I decided to finish it not far from the terrarium. I started to process the metal hook with a file and Foxy started to get nervous and tried to hide. I stopped right away and finished the hook in another room. By the way, mine is also afraid of helicopters.

Helicopters are quite rare here and he doesn't mind - recognizes them but is not scared.

Beardies usually have very good hearing, and my Taco was quite afraid of certain normal household sounds (washing the dishes, putting together furniture, phone ringing) or noise from outdoors (loud truck parking, street dogs barking/howling*) in the beginning. Also things like sneezing (I'm sorry, but I'm sneezing quite loud if I have to).
But nowadays he's fine with those sounds and also sounds like

I'm often doing some crafts and other work on the balcony which is right next to his enclosure, and have the door open. "Crafts" for me usually is not with paper, but working with wood, metal and such, hammering, filing, cutting. He's looking curiously, but not hiding or otherwise appearing to be stressed. However, when he was younger he was clearly, and I then did the same as you:

I'm very noise sensitive and I'd say nowadays Taco seems to be less noise sensitive as me. "Seems", as of course I don't know what he's thinking about this, but I'd guess me thinking about some noise "that's horrible" up to thinking about certain "not to be said around children" words that would be stress marks in a bearded dragon. So I'd say a dragon just looking and then continuing basking with a bright color, or continuing eating, it's more like me thinking "oh well, just the neighbor running the vacuum", "ah, I hear, husband got himself something from the fridge".

*Not often to be heard that much. But a pack howling late in the evening/ night when the female dogs are in heat.... uh!

I also like to do some craft work, I drill, hammer, use a lot of power tools, and Foxy is calm about all loud or unpleasant sounds. But it is the friction of a file on metal that scares him. Only this. It is a little strange, because this sound is not the loudest and not scary.

The filing might annoy my guys, I haven't done that where they could hear, it may be the frequency of the rasping?
Other stuff like the tv or radio they could care less about. I run the vacuum in their habitats once every 6 or 7 days, unless I get to close and it pulls on their tails they just watch with curiosity. Literally the helicopters are the only thing that makes them nervous, and Ruby don't really care even about those unless they are circling.
Zsa Zsa notices every single thing that moves though, but she thinks if it moves it's food and trys to attack. Even the towel I put up to darken her habitat at night, she goes after it every morning. The blinds, the broom, mop, tying our shoes, heck she grabbed my eye glass case off the coffee table twice the other day and it wasn't even moving lol. I think even with the sirens 🚨 going she'd try to catch and eat a fire truck lol.

I also dislike this sound, honestly (but can accept it and use a file as the result is worth it :D). I guess it's the same thing people hate about sounds like squeaking calk on a blackboard, or when cleaning glass with a sponge: All those sounds are similar to screams, including bird screams.
I could imagine these sounds, for us humans unpleasant but usually not so bad we really have to hide, are much worse for an animal that just has not the same mental capacity as we have. They might recognize "is not really a danger", but still act more similar to toddlers where the emotions have more saying in things where we adults just go over it with some better mental capacity, still feeling annoyed, but usually don't have to show it that much.

We have sometimes music playing, but always very low volume and usually meditation music and nature sounds.
We don't have a TV, but occasionally watch a documentary or movie in another room and at a volume of a normal voice talking or quieter.

That's interesting :)
I've never used one in there as with the setup I have, I'm scratching and scooping out sand (and refilling it) when necessary. That's quiet. But he also doesn't mind the scoop and spoon I'm using, or me dumping in a bowl full of sand. He's then also watching with curiosity, not afraid. Same with the spray bottle I use (every morning, for the plants and a bit on the sand). He just doesn't like getting wet ;)
Zsa Zsa notices every single thing that moves though, but she thinks if it moves it's food and trys to attack. Even the towel I put up to darken her habitat at night, she goes after it every morning.
We have a curtain behind (and I pull it closed at night as the street lights are very bright), and in the beginning he was fearing it. Same with clothes that are not on a person, like me bringing in the dried laundry from the balcony. But that's fine for "a long time" now.

The thing with "noticing every single thing", that's also Taco (but just not going after it). Today I had to pick off leaves from a rosemary, and did so on a table just next to Taco's enclosure. I put them in a plastic container that looks similar to the one feeder insects are usually delivered in. That look :D (I guess this has reminded him of him eating golliwog, and the dubias.)

Yes, perhaps the frequency of the sound matters.
Other stuff like the tv or radio they could care less about. Literally the helicopters are the only thing that makes them nervous, and Ruby don't really care even about those unless they are circling.
By the way, there was another time when Foxy was scared. We were walking along the slope of a mountain over which paragliders were flying. One of them flew about ten meters above us, he flew slowly and sort of hovered above us. I think he was looking at Foxy. So Foxy then quickly hid under my neck and sat there very quietly until the paraglider flew away.

Zsa Zsa notices every single thing that moves though, but she thinks if it moves it's food and trys to attack. Even the towel I put up to darken her habitat at night, she goes after it every morning. Zsa Zsa is great! She has a good appetite, I envy you :D

Interesting! Mirage almost never reacts to sound. I know he hears it but he only ever gives a reaction if its something that interests him. He's heard helicopters and never been afraid of them. My dad is currently renovating the bathroom and Mirage hears all the tool sounds but never gets nervous or tries to hide. He truly is very chill. Almost nothing bothers him. Though I could probably credit that to the fact that my family owns four Caiques (Two white bellied and two black headed) that are always screaming. And I mean ALWAYS. He also seems to have no reaction to when you mess with him. Just today my younger sister had him laying on her chest and she was making him "dance" picking him up and wiggling him around a bit. (nothing that could harm him) he absolutly did not care and let her do this for about 45 minutes. Mirage really is a special little dude!

p.s. It's confirmed! Mirage is a boy! I know that beardies are often misgendered so I decided to confirm! ;)

Regarding being touched, or sitting on humans that move, my Taco also doesn't mind. (But I also have to say, I trained him quite a lot to getting used to touch, just so I can easily check his pores (check them regularly, never had to clean them), and likely also could trim nails if necessary (never done that).) I can touch every part of his body, also pick up his feet gently and set them down again.

Had birds when I was younger - can imagine that...
Our household is of the very quiet one (two introvert adults, everything either with headphones or very low volume, no other pets or at least no pets that make noises). Taco also doesn't mind noise nowadays, but it makes him usually curious. From the window, he can sometimes see marching bands (many schools here have them and they practice before holidays and also seem to have competitions), and there is a military recinto right across the street and from our 13th floor apartment we can look directly into it, there are often soldiers marching and singing, and military vehicles including tanks moved around (but shooting training they do somewhere else as that's in a residential area here). Such things, of course, also have a visual/ movement component, that attracts him, too.

a poem by AHBD (THANK YOU SO MUCH! I LOVE IT!)

Sir Henry the dragon
Looking for his dragon girl
Ventures out in to the wide world
His hopes are up but as you can see
There is no dragon girl for Sir Henry
A light bulb goes off and he takes mom aside
Could you perchance get me a mail order bride ?
