Is it unusual for the Beardie to seemingly just rip pieces off here and there and not eat? Today, i put out 6 crickets. 2 are gone i assume he ate. 2 are dead in the same space they always wind up dead, right near his basking spot. They are missing limbs. The Limbs are all over, again near his basking rock. I see videos and it seems like they suck them up and eat them but mine, there are pieces.
It doesn't really change even if the crickets are smaller. I got him ones im sure are small enough this time after talking with you people.
Sometimes their legs fall off when being eaten. I would offer crickets in small batches just a couple at a time. If he isn't interested, remove them and try again later. If he goes after them, just keep offering small batches until he loses interest. This way they are easier for both of you to track and you can remove leftovers after the meal. It's best that they don't escape and hide in the tank. This will also give you an idea about how they are being eaten.
Also if the insect is large , a lizard will dismember it and eat it piecemeal , and when they bash up the large insect to stun / kill it often bits will go flying and may be missed by the lizard and go uneaten.
I've seen a 30g water skink take on a huntsman spider with a leg span about 6 inches , this is exactly how the little skink dispatched the large spider in order to safely eat it.
