Hey all I am trying to breed crickets cheap so i just bought a plastic tub some top soil and some cricket food.
Crickets are taking forever to hatch. does anyone have any ideas how to speed things up without making it to exspensive? I was also wondering how to avoid mold sense you have to keep soil moist..
Ty for all comments .
I switched to sand because I had eco-earth mold on me.
Get a used UTH(they normally run 95+ degrees) and use that to heat your egg box.
Crickets are SUPER easy.
egg cartons, carrots, egg box. That is all that is needed as a minimum.
temp:80-90
Warm temp= 4-5week total life cycle
lower temp and life cycle can be as long as 8 weeks.
eggs need to be in moist environment and 90-95 degrees
I use a 10 gallon tank with a heating pad underneath and a towel over the top.
The sand is nice because it shows the pin heads much easier.
I picked up some cheap tuperware. I add wet sand and put in the cricket tub. Let it in there for a week and pull out, wetten, add lid on tight and put in the incubator. I check my egg boxes daily but I normally have 8-12 egg boxes going at a time and 6 tubs of crickets at various sizes going.
crickets are easy...but they make noise, their molts and dead do stink and of course they jump and expect escapees. But they breed easily, they grow quickly and they are super cheap.
