Hello all! I have had some people tell me they buy red worms and nightcrawlers (earthworms) at baitstores or walmart to feed their dragons. I know not to buy crickets from baitstores because of parasites so wouldn't the same apply for earthworms etc??? Would love it if I could, but don't want to take chance. Thoughts?
I've heard of people doing this before too and I don't agree with it. Bait bugs aren't necessarily raised with the care and quality control that feeder bugs are raised with and I'd think the chance of parasitic infection or other sickness from them is increased and not worth the risk. I'd stick with the popular feeders (crickets, dubia roaches, silk worms, Phoenix Worms, etc) and reputable suppliers just to be safe.
Thanks! I am not going to chance it and try and maybe order some large quantities of crickets. A person like me (social worker) could seriously go broke buying crickets by the dozen from a pet store.....
Yeah for sure. The pet store crickets tend to be poor quality on top of high cost. I wound up ordering them monthly by the thousand online and eventually put a roach colony together so I didn't need to order staple bugs anymore.
