So I just found out yesterday that my poor beardie has parasites, so I am done with crickets. I started to buy dubia roaches online and my beardie loves them. I have another beardie owner who is telling me I cannot solely feed her just dubias because they are so high in protein. Just wondering if this is the case or if I can continue to feed her just the dubias. I do feed fresh veggies every other day as well. Also, I'm wondering how many to feed her. She is about 8-9 months old and does not have a problem eating 10 at a time twice a day. Any advice given will help! Thank you!!
I've not seen any analysis of B. dubia for nutritonal values. Part of the concern with cockroaches is that they can convert protien into uric acid - which may contribute to gout when fed to our reptiles. For this reason I feed mine a low protien diet of fresh veggies and fruits.
I'd be curious what your friends reasoning is, as far as the protien goes. Perhaps there is merit to it, looking at other roaches the protien values are higher than crickets.
