Over the past few months I have finding random male dubias around my house. Most of the time they were dead so it didn't bother me much. I figured they were fluttering out of the bin when I was lifting the egg crates. Last night, however, freaked me out. My dog woke me up because he was eating things on the floor and chasing stuff. So, I get up and he's rooting around the closet door where I keep the roaches. When I opened the door I found 3 males on the wall and 2 on the floor! I was shocked to say the least. When I checked the bin there was a line of males climbing their way over each other to get out past the tape! They were on the highest point of egg crate literally World War Z-ing their way out!!
My question is, what do I do? I glad it's only the males that are leaving, and why is that? strange.
I just smeared Vaseline along the top half with the egg crates. I hope that's enough. I didn't want to do the whole thing because when I clean the bin I need a spot to pour the poo out.
If you line to top of the enclosure with clear regular packing tape, they cannot climb this. IDK why/how they are getting out of your current enclosure. Mine could still get out when I used vasoline. But the packing tape trick really works. If you do not have a 3 inch gap between the egg flats and the lid where you would be sticking the packing tape, then I recommend cutting the egg flat down a bit so that the roaches cannot even get to the lid let alone climb the packing tape.
