Good evening everyone!
I've had a few questions swimming in my head since I found out Scorch is an easter baby. Yes, she was born on Easter Which means she is about 6 months old.
But she is very stunted for that age... I measured her today, she is 11 inches from nose tip to tail tip. She has grown a half inch since I got her... and I've noticed she has grown more in the last few days now that she is eating more.
Should i be concerned about her size? I haven't been using a UVB source since she has been healing from photokeratoconjunctivitus... I removed the PowerSun last week on Saturday and I am replacing it with a T-Rex tomorrow morning.
And are there any foods that would (safely) give her a boost to her size? I'd really feel bad if her growth was stunted her whole life.
BTW I got her from a reputable person who took very good care of her.
I would just let her grow on her own! A lot of people want to get their beardies to grow quicker and it is just not good for their body's! As long as you get her under the lite and have a well balanced diet she will grow to be big, healthy and strong! Good luck..

it comes down to genetics as well as the care. some dragons just grow much slower than others. i have hatchlings from both types of gene pools one is 1.5 months and only 6 inches and the other was 9 inches at the same age and is 11 at 2.5 months. its all on how they are "pre-programmed" to grow. All you can do is offer them optimum nutrition and habitat to allow them to grow to their full potential.
I agree with Brian...genetics plays a very big roll in growth.
I have one small female that makes very healthy babies but her babies are on the smaller side like her. Whereas I have another female somewhat larger that lays very big babies.
This was with using the same male to breed with both of them.
This year I changed up on the male I used to breed with the female that has big babies and these babies are the biggest ones I've ever had. Averaging 12 inches now at 9 weeks of age.
Wow hehe. Yea its strange, some of the dragons in her clutch grew WAY faster. Which I think is mostly because they probably hogged food but the rest (five or so) of them are about her size.
