Eleanor is 7 months old now, and is doing very well! I think that she is growing at a great rate, and that she looks very healthy. My parents, on the other hand, constantly antagonize me about her weight. They keep calling her obese and making me feel like I'm a terrible owner. Usually I wouldn't let this stuff get to me... but since I have no access to a scale that measures in grams right now, it's gotten a lot easier to second guess myself. Again, I think she looks healthy...I've got her on a diet of crickets, dubia roaches, super worms, and lots of calcium/vitamin rich fruits and veggies. Her favorites are collard greens and blueberries! (I dust her food with calcium and the reptile vitamins as well) She's a great eater and stops when she's full. I just need someone to check out these pictures and let me know if she looks like she needs to lose weight. She's 15 inches long, for reference. Getting my hands on a scale is next on my list, but college textbooks ate up a huge portion of my bank account. I'm coming here for answers for now.
Hi there, she's a truly beautiful dragon and you're taking great care of her. She is slightly overweight though, just a bit of chub to her stomach and her neck is beginning to fatten up.
Some people will tel you that they can't become overweight while still growing but that's not really true, just as we know that teenagers can and do become overweight.
Just cut out the superworms and maybe a few bugs per week and she should even out in weight.
I agree. She looks pretty healthy overall but some slight adjustments in her diet now will help her be healthier going forward. Cutting the supers and pushing a nice varied salad every day should help. If you have a safe spot for her to roam around in your house I'd let her roam a bit too. If she can explore and move a bit she'll get a good deal of exercise vs sitting in a tank and that should help too.
Eleanor is beautiful & still under one year, too!
As mentioned, it should be pretty easy to get her to slim down just a tad by cutting some of
the insects out & focusing more on the greens.
She will still finish growing as well, but be even healtheir without extra weight.
Thank you everyone I'll be sure to change her diet and get her some more exercise! I'm just happy that it's only slight. The last thing I want to do is hurt this little love bug in any way.
