Okay, this seems dumb, but I have a 40 gal breeder. I was using a 75 watt basking bulb in the early fall, switched to 100 watt when it started getting colder. My digital probe thermometer has started reading the basking spot as topping out at 92 degrees after an hour of sitting there. I added the 50 watt to the hot side to try to increase the ambient air temp, but to no avail. The cool side is dropping to 75 during the day too, since I took the 50 watt off that side. Chester NEVER uses the cool side, if he gets too warm he goes in his hammock next to the basking spot. So, I bought a new sun dome with a higher wattage rating and i'm waiting for my reptisun 10 and 150 watt bulb I ordered to come in. Obviously I'll check the temps before I put him in there, but does anyone else have to use such high wattage to get the right temps. I mean, there will be 200 watts of heat in that viv... my room temp is 58 to 60 and his viv is next to the window which doesn't help, but I need reassurance I won't cook him!!! :?
