I recently got a Acurite Digital Thermometer and i was wondering if it has to be stuck on something to work or can it just dangle in a certain area to get the correct temp. The first time i stuck it near the basking area my little man started licking and batting at it like a cat haha.
I usually check the tank temps when I'm giving them a bath or they are out running around otherwise they will usually plop down on the probe so that I can't get good readings.
With a probe thermometer, you have to make sure that the probe end is actually touching (resting on) the basking log or rock because if you let it dangle, you're not getting the actual basking SURFACE temp. You also have to be sure to wait at least 45 min for the temp to stop rising before getting the final reading. Does that help?
