Hello all,
I am a new BD mom and have found this site incredibly helpful. My new BD is doing well; just got him/her yesterday. It is about 4 months old and about 5". Is this a good size? He/she is a voracious eater but will only eat crickets; I have some PWs on the way. My question concerns his water intake. He will not eat veg or drink from his water dish. Although he did crawl through it once today. I have tried to drip water on his nose and he just ignores it. I am concerned that he/she is going to become dehydrated. I have given him a bath both days but he will not drink that water either.
His cage set up is good. I have checked and rechecked. He is in a 50in long that is sectioned of to about 24" and has a repti-sun 160w uva/uvb/heat light that keeps his basking spot around 100. He is very active and curious and seems very healthy. Is there anything I can do to ensure he stays hydrated?
Thanks
Shauna
You can bathe him everyday. I have heard that they get water thru their Vents(Bottom). They also get it from their greens. I put the worm right on top of the greens that way he gets a few bites of the greens too.
I don't believe very many beardies actually drink from their water dishes. I know there are some that do. I also mist mine once a day. Hope this helps.
I hope someone with more experience can answer this better.
Thank you for your response. Yes, I have been bathing him everyday. What do you use to mist your baby? I was nervous that a spray bottle (plastic) might release harmful chemicals. Is there any misting bottles made for reptile use? My worms came today!! He LOVES them!! Yeah Phoenix worms!! I hope that will provide him with more fluids. For the mean time I will keep up the baths.
