Dehydration / Weight Loss

Hello,

Thanks for posting all of the medical information & bloodwork. How is your boy doing?
Did the vet mention gout developing? His uric acid levels are elevated to the point that I think he should most likely be put on a gout medication.
His calcium is a bit high, but that usually is caused by renal issues unless a female has eggs, etc.
The AST (liver enzymes) readings are good also. 'He isn't losing anymore weight right now?
I would continue to focus on vegetation, as much as you can rght now & keep the protein to a low to moderate level to keep stress off of the kidneys.

Let us know how he is doing.

They only spoke in terms of
* Uric acid indicating kidneys are in bad shape
* He is unlikely to recover from such levels of dehydration
* If the above prove false, the hard spot near his liver is likely a tumor anyways

They recommended hospitalization for rehydration, emeraid for supplementing nutrients, and no others notes or recommendations.

We chose not to hospitalize due to past experience doing so. He has been home this entire time.

We have
* Reduced insect feedings to every 3 days
* Reduced the amount of calcium used in dusting
* Increased how much/often we offer greens, and try to get him interested in eating them more
* Provided emeraid once daily
* Provided cherry juice once daily
* Provided vitamins once weekly

I got him to run around a bit today, and he wasn't so wobbly but he did fall once or twice because he didn't pay attention to his surroundings, ie fell over a log or rock.

Hello,

That is good news he seems to be doing a little better. I Hope his balance improves for him. I can't
blame you for not wanting to hospitalize him, sometimes it ends in disaster.
Is he on gout medication right now?
Definitely continue with the cherry juice daily, that will help with extra oral fluids for him. Has his beard
been normal color or darker?

Let us know how he is doing.

He has seldom had a completely clear beard regardless of conditions. We've attempted adjusting his husbandry, food, handling, etc over time yet it has always remained at least a little grey since rescuing him from his previous situation.

Ive assumed it's from a change of scenery at the age of 9.

He is not on any medication, I'm not sure how I'd approaching the vet for that.

Picture attacked is about as clear as he ever gets in what we consider to be a good mood.

I was mistaken above when I said no medication. He was prescribed gabapentin twice daily. I am giving it to him once daily.

Hello,

He looks so sweet, his beard is very clear.
At years, I would say he looks pretty good!
How is he doing today, has his balance improved?
How long has he been on gabapentin?
Does he have any swelling in his hand/feet,
fingers or toes areas that are symptoms of
gout?
Continue the care you are giving now, he seems to be doing pretty well eating his greens & taking in fluids.

Nothing appears to be swollen. He's still visibly scrawny in areas that really shouldn't be such as the sides of his tails and arms. I believe he's still only 350g, having bottomed out at a minimum of 335 in the first week of July.

He's been on gabapentin and herbivore emeraid since July 16th IIRC.

Later on they added carnivore emeraid to mix with the herbivore because they were out of omnivore stock. The emeraid mix is 1 part powder 2 part water, 2ml herbivore 2ml omnivore daily.

Hello,

The mixture of Emeraid mix to the Herbivore mix should help with weight gain.
I'm glad to hear there aren't any areas that are swollen. Is he active now during the day?
Let us know howhe is doing.

He is active during the day. His legs and torso are looking better than last month, but his legs still aren't great.

No visible improvement around the tail or head with areas that became sunken in there.

His weight hasn't changed from the 340-350g area still though.

Hello,

I'm glad to her his legs are doing better. I hope that he continues to improve. You can encourage him
to run around & exercise enough to help strengthen up his legs.
Perhaps you can increase his food intake some if needed, to try & get some weight onto him. Has
his beard been normal color recently or darker in color?
