Ok I don't have a wood stove or anything but my apt is usually pretty hot we don't control our heat and if its not too bad tomorrowill be able to get her a couple packs of the hand warmes if I don't have work cause of the storm I don't really know what I should do?! Should I bring her into the bathroom and turn the hot water on and let it get really hot in there and then bring her in and hold. Her???
luckily i live in an area where we dont have too many disasters. I always have a few tins of veg in my cupboards that i could use in emergency's - carrots and the like. With regards to meat, i breed my own dubia and i always have mice in the freezer for my snake.
With regards to heating i have a few reusable hand warmers that i just boil in hot water to reuse. I always use them when transporting a reptile. I also have a spare hot water bottle and battery powered kettle that i use for extra heat. I get a lot of power cuts at the moment since there's near by electricity works going on. Though i've had 2 this week just due to some fuses blowing in the system - took 4 hours to fix each time! My snake had just been fed so heat was essential, especially since hes such a fussy eater and had been refusing feeds making this feed important! I filled a hot water bottle, affixed it to the side of the glass tank and he huddled up next to it. I put cold water in with the boiling until it was the kind of temperature you can comfortably hold to your skin, just to be safe. I suppose something like that could help a beardie stay warm.
As long as the rooms fairly warm i suppose they could go without heat/lights a few days. Hige's been getting ready to brumnate so he'd cope fairly well without any for a while.
Taking the dragon into a steam filled bathroom would be a bad idea. High humidity is not good for them and can lead to respiratory infections. The hot water bottle is a better idea. Holding them against your skin is better than a steamy bathroom, too. I put mine under my shirt sometimes and they get toasty warm. They need to be 90 at least to digest food. Good luck with the storm. We dodged it here in Florida this time.
Well disregard that post about the shower after I wote it I thought oh crap but I don't know how to delete a post! I always put my beardie under my shirt and she absolutely loves it that's exactly what I was planning to do!!! Thank you for the advice is appreciated maybe we will dodge the storm too!!!!!D
Just a suggestion....i love the hand warmers BUT the toe warmers are larger, put out as much heat <wrap in a towel or washcloth> and the heat lasts longer. We use the toe warmers to warm our sleeping bags when camping in the mtns and it gets chilly up there even in summer.
