So, Steve is still with me (we are filling out a surrender form on Tuesday, yay) and when I bathed him I noticed that one of his femoral pores looked like it was damaged, like there was a hole. I'm sure if that ever happens normally and I just don't know about it but I wanted to be sure.
Not sure if you can see it well, it's one of the ones on the right side (his left) near his vent. Also he looks disgusting, I know. His vent area is shedding finally and all the disgusting scales are coming off finally, since they were gross and looked like they were stained with poop. Finally it's shedding and looks much cleaner under the old skin.
So, should I be concerned about the hole? Should I do anything, or leave it and just make sure he's clean? Is it normal for them to do that? I saw something about them getting clogged and get plugged and look bad when the plug comes out, I just don't know if that's what happened here or soothing else or what. Are they clogged maybe?
It looks O.K right now, the waxy secretion has come out of there it's not infected or anything. Hopefully Steve is going to a good place and will continue to make progress.
Oh geez, who are you surrendering him to? I was hoping you were going to be able to keep him.
That femoral pore is a bit irritated but it does happen sometimes. The pore will fill back in eventually relatively quickly.
He's actually going to a rescue in Rhode Island! I won't have the time now that school has started to care for him, and they seem really good. Happy Herps Reptile Rescue. He should get all the car he needs, they seem to do really well with rehabilitating, and the lady I talked to about surrendering seemed nice and like she knew her stuff.
And okay, good to know it's alright. I feel bad it's probably uncomfortable, but not much I can do about it really.
