Last night while I was out. My cat broke through the screen on my beardies roof. I have no idea why, being as we have had our cat and beardie for about a year, but he did.
The cat obviously stressed out my berdie, when I came home my beardies neck was pure black and out, along with his tail.
All he has done today is sleep, my cat scratched the back of my beardies neck..Is there some sort of cream or something I can do to help it heal faster? I'm quite worried about him and there is no reptile vets around here. The closestest is 5 hours away.
What can I do to help him?
Thank you

Hello,

Well, luckily, that is all that happened. Do you have a locking mechanism to put on top of the screen top so that will not happen again? They are cheap & it can save your dragon's life if that ever happens again.
Basically you just need to clean the cut with diluted betadine, & use some neosporin or polysporin antibiotic ointment, daily on it. Keep a close eye on that area for infection as cat bites & scratches are notorious for causing infection.

Thanks for the help. I am going to clean it again and put some on. The cut looks kind of deep?
As for the cat, it isn't staying with us right now until we get a different lid that is not screen all the way across.
I think the weight of him laying on the top, collapsed it, Nazzy..my beardie moved and he jumped in after him. What kind of top can you get to use besides the whole thing being screen?

Hello,

Well, you can get a hood that a flourescent tube bulb will fit into that secures down onto the glass pretty well. Have you seen those types that I am talking about?
How deep is the cut?

No, I'm unsure what you are talking about. We live in a smaller town so trying to find terranium items are difficult. If I had an idea i'll go out of town again and look. Did you have a website I could get an idea of it from?
He is hiding right now behind his tree otherwise I would take a picture. The cut is open, not sure how to explain it it looks like he was sliced with a knife.

Hello,
Here is a site that gives you an idea of what a lighting hood looks like. It does add stability to the tank, so you might want to consider that or move your dragon somewhere else to where the cat cannot get to it.
Ouch, that sounds somewhat painful, I hope it is not hurting him too much. Make sure to coat that area with the ointment to protect that cut.
However, those hoods pictured only hold the compact or coil lights which you cannot use. There are some hoods that hold the long flourescent tube bulbs. Do you have a Lowes or Home Depot around, or a hardware department type of store? Stores like that should have something. Aquarium stores could also have something appropriate too.

I hope this helps out. :D
