Custom enclosure ventilation questions

I am currently building three identical custom enclosures for my beardies to replace their old store-bought tanks. Everything is in order, but I am struggling to figure out exactly how much ventilation I should have. I am planning on creating multiple rectangular vents, at low and high points in the tank, but don't know exactly how many I need or how much surface area of vent their should be. I keep finding slightly different results online.

Each vent can be as large as 30cm x 15cm, and I can definitely have one on the bottom of one side and another on the top of one side, but how much more should I have? Double that amount? Triple?


Tanks are melamine, 120x60x60 (4ft x 2ft x 2ft) and I live in Brisbane Australia, which is a fairly warm/hot environment.

The amount of ventilation needed will probably vary due to the environment within your house. If it is usually warm and humid in your house, I would probably lean toward more ventilation, and vise versa. If you go with circular vents that have an iris style opening/damper, you can drill a few of them low on the cool side and a few high up on the warm side, then you can make adjustments to the airflow more easily as needed. The square vents can work, but the type I'm thinking of would have a damper that takes up a lot of space inside, or wouldn't have the fine control that I'd prefer. Setting the vents low on the cool side and high on the warm side will encourage natural airflow allowing the warmer air to escape through the top while pulling cooler air in through the bottom vents.
