I'm new to BD's and was wondering if Crickets have to be in their everyday diet or can I replace them with mealworms? She would rather have mealworms, then crickets. Most of the time she ignores the crickets. I want her to eat, but she is very picky!
Mealworms really are not a good feeder for beardies, and especially not for small/young beardies. In short, they've got a lot of shell compared to their meat, and can increase risk of impaction. There are lots of other worms that are much better feeders, although they are not always as cheap as mealworms.
OK, I will try to keep giving her crickets. What other kind of worms? I heard that alot of the worms are high in fat and should only be done for treats. Are there any worms that are not high in fat and have a good portion protien?
I feed a lot of Phoenix Worms, and I think that you'll find that most people consider them an excellent staple. I order 400 at a time, and it costs $27.95 including shipping (assuming you're in the US). So they make a great supplement to crickets, but can maybe get a little pricey if it's a staple for a baby. They'd be a great staple for an adult, too, since adults don't eat as much live food as babies.
How old is your beardie? If it's under about 1.5 years, then it needs a LOT of live food (up to 100 crickets a day!). If it's older, then it doesn't need nearly as much.
She is only 9 weeks. She is such a picky eater, which doesn’t make sense cause everything I read it states that juveniles go crazy at eating anything. I leave a great bowl of greens, sweet pot & butternut squash and she hasn’t touched it once. I was able to feed her two pieces of lettuce the other day and she walked away lol.
That site is awesome, thanks! I didn't see anything for crickets, roaches, silkworms. Are there any other sites that you know of that may have something like this?
May I ask what sites you order from too? I found that armstrongcrickets.com has great prices.
Crickets and silkworms are there roaches are not.. feederinc.com or something used to be good but it hasnt been working lately had phoenix and silkies and very high nutritional value roaches at high, crickets moderate.
Silkworms are just above the squashes on the beautiful dragons site and crickets are the 2nd last C between cranberries and cucumber..
I order crickets from http://www.ghann.com, although once this bin of crickets is gone, NO MORE! My roach colony is almost established enough to support Pudge, and I'll feed Phoenix Worms until then.
OK great, I'm going to order Pheonix worms today. Do you know of any coupon codes when you are ordering? I'm filling the order out now and there is a section to enter a coupon code.
