K so recently our pet stores cricket supply has been hit with the cricket virus that is affecting most feeder farms. Our pet store is switching to black crickets. I've heard from many sources that they are more aggressive. I was just wondering if this is true and who here actually uses black crickets as a feeder. I would use dubias but they happen to be illegal in Canada.
I've used the black ones....those so-called ferocious orthoptera[ gryllus assimilis ] don't stand a chance against our voracious pogona ! In other words , your beardie will still tear them up. Seriously, they get eaten just like the brown [ acheta domesticus ] ones did. Of course you don't want to leave any in the tank over night, just like the other crickets. But my dragons have had no problems with them. There is a thread with some warnings about them [ 2nd thread down on this forum is a sticky ] , so it seems that some people have had problems, but I haven't, and I've never been bitten by one, neither have my beardies.
