hopefully it’s not an issue but i was cleaning out my cricket keeper and there were still 5 or 6 crickets in it so i swept them out onto the counter for my dragon to eat and before i could stop him he ran and jumped into the cricket keeper and gobbled up a cricket sized piece of fluker’s cricket quencher. from the posts i’ve seen it’s either just a case of the poops or disasterous to eat it and i’d just like to know which is the case... i don’t want to just sit back and ignore it but i don’t really know what can be done about this. too late to stop him from eating it unfortunately
I advise NEVER use water crystals , Cricket Quencher is just that rebranded.
Chunks of fresh carrot and fresh leafy greens are a much better way of hydrating your crickets with to toxic buildup in the insects (and the lizards who eat the insects).
Hi there, just feed him as usual and it will pas through.
But I agree with the other poster, just feed your crickets scraps of veggies. Pure, good natural food [ hopefully, right ? ] Those store bought cubes are junk , just another money maker.
Yes, please do not feed your Feeder insects anything but the greens and veggies that you would want your dragon to eat, no commercial insect feed or hydration at all, it's a total waste of money and extremely dangerous! Knobbys is exactly correct, "Cricket Quenchers" contain the exact same stuff that is used as the main ingredient in those gel beads you put into your house plants over the winter for hydration! And many dragons are being diagnosed with Pseudogout recently due to what people are feeding their live feeder insects, including most all of the commercial insect feeds and then also dog food, cat food, and anything else extremely high in purine/protein. So only feed your live crickets, roaches, BSFL, superworms, etc. the same veggies and greens that you give you Dragon and nothing else.
Putting fresh, skinned potatoes cut into quarters is good for hydration.
I will never understand how companies can make dangerous, poisonous feeds for live insects that will then be fed to pets. Think about it, you're worried about your dragon eating a "Cricket Quencher", but you willingly feed them to the live crickets that you feed to your dragon?
well dang i’m kinda mad now that i’m being recommended harmful products and wasting my money... guess i’ll throw it away ._. glad he’ll be okay though, thanks
Don't feel too bad, a lot of people are suckered into buying that "Cricket Quencher" garbage, along with all kinds of "Roach Chow" and what not. It's awful stuff. Just feed your insects what you feed him.
A few years ago , I read story on one of the local (Australian) herping message boards where someone lost their pet bearded dragon because they thought it was ok to mix water crystals with the greens and pellets.
At the time , there were people on Australian herping message boards advocating using gardening water crystals to provide water mess free for feeder insects .... very BAD IDEA !
The crystals had swollen in volume in the gut by a huge amount and ruptured the poor dragon's GIT as well as clogging the plumbing ... a horrible way to go..
