I had my male that I've had since april out a few moments ago and it appears his pelvis behind the legs to tail might have a slight turn to the left in it. I managed to feel down his spine while gently pulling as his tail hooked on my finger and there is definitely a noticeable, though slight, turn in it. I've read 2 main opinions on this, one is that it's MBD, one is that long periods of time on vertical surfaces like glass terrariums cause this because their rear bone structure can't properly support their tails, which apparently most loose in the wild. Obviously I'm not going to have it's tail removed. I think there might have been a third one saying this can be a birth defect. Now, is 4 months of iffy feeding (maybe not at all) on the CGD going to do this (or 4 months of being in my terrarium) he does spend a ton of time on glass, often face down with tail hanging to the side or outward, despite other items provided for climbing (maybe I need more of those too?). The female I have is slightly larger and is strait as an arrow. The male has not noticeably grown, and I don't know how many sheds, my guess 5? in the 4 months I've had him. It's possible he had this deformity when I bought him and I just never had him in the right position to notice, as I don't really handle him all that much and it's usually just a quick catch, let him jump a few times and back to the cage. Hopefully soon I can get my new computer done and ready and one of the first things is to place a usb camera in the cage so I can see whats going on at night. Someone is eating a crapload of CGD powder off the dish, which makes me wonder if the Male is eating at all since I cut off the crickets entirely. The breeder I got the female from is the same one I got the male from at the first show and he informed me to try sprinkling dry CGD on a can lid or something and this is the first time I've been able to see noticeable consumption levels. Though it's taken several days, there was a sudden 50% reduction in powder over a 1 day period, so someone had a feast. I might try mixing some wet again and see what happens. He seems otherwise healthy, the breeder must have missed the pelvis issue too because it's slight, he held him for only a few seconds and said he looked great and not too thin or anything and during tonights handling session he left a stinky little gift on my arm so I'd hafta say, since I quit the crickets on the 15th, he's eating the dried powder too...there's nothing else for him in there, I doubt he'd eat repti-bark (at least I hope not lol).
Also, the reptile show I bought the female from was Aug 15th. Assuming they mated, how soon will I "notice" something? Will they behave differently to each other? They spent lots of time together the first few nights.
On a side note, I was able to finally calm the female down tonight enough to photo her after a few tried. Held my hand up to a cabinet for a good background and she promptly went flying, ended up 4 feet down and a foot and a half away from where she started and luckily she didn't bolt. Tried the chair next, she didn't run from the camera or my hand, though I missed an opportunity to capture her threatening me with an open mouth earlier, would a been nice to grab one of those open mouth shots. I'll be posting some and her cage on my facebook tomorrow.
