My Beardies 2 years old in like 12 days and she is coughing, her beard puffs out and she makes ike a coughing noise, she has been curled up on this rock for the past day and a half, just sitting there not doing anything. She was out downstairs laying beside me for like 10 mins and she coughed and she keeped coughing ever 5-7 mins, Please Help , whats making my poor baby cough !?!?
Well, it sounds like she has an upper respiratory infection. How many days has she been coughing? Is she eating at all? Is her beard and/or tail darker in color than usual? Has she gotten a big drink in the bath lately which might have caused her to choke on some water? Or is it possible that she could have choked on a super worm?
We need to know some things about your setup so that we can try to rule things out. What size tank is she in and what is the wattage of the heat bulb(s) you're using? What are the basking & cool side temps and what type of thermometer do you have? What type of cleaner are you using in her tank? What substrate is on the bottom of her tank?
it started last night, she doesn't see that bad as much now, and her beard is a little darker , and the bath is quite shallow, so i don't think so, i don't think she choked , i watch her very close well feeding her, and the setups in a 75 gallon cage, the temp on war is about 102 and about 82 on the cool side , with a probe on where you put on it and let it sit for 45 mins ,its a 25 watt basking bulb and repisun 10.0 strip tube light. i just use water to clean it, like hardcore crazy cleaning , and the substrate is hard purple foam and rocks
25w is very low for a 75 gal cage. Have you changed the battery on the probe, it may be off, i would try and increase the temps a bit first.
Secondly purple foam and rocks do not make a very good substrate at all for a beardy. If she ingests some it will cause havok, ie impactions or if they are sharp tearing of her organs. It is also a breeding ground for bacteria. I would remove it all and just put either tiles or paper towel for now. Water would not kill anything, just make it all nice and damp for the bacteria to grow in. You need to use a 10% bleach solution (1 part bleach to 9 parts water) and rinse well with water after.
