Hey everyone!,

I was wandering around the internet as I do and I came across some people who had made roach motels out of cork. They were sheets that were bolted together. My question is... which is better? The egg flats are working great but if the motel is better then that gives me an excuse to build something new. :D

My only concern with switching to cork is that egg crates create way more surface area because of the indentations. Each indentation adds probably something like and inch of surface area, imo. My roaches, especially the babies, love to hide in the egg crate indentations. I think they would feel more secure, thus less stress and better breeding, if they had the egg crate indentations to hide in. Nothing sure about this, just my thoughts and observations.

There used to be a guy on these forums from So. Africa, maybe his name was beetlejuice, who used the cork set up you are talking about. It looked good, my only concern as stated above are the indentations.

^^^^^^ This. The eggcrates do add quite a bit more surface area. I have made a few motels from cardboard and hardboard (same stuff as pegboard) It looks nice and neat but I had more trouble shaking the roaches out of it and after thinking about the surface area, decided to just stick with eggcrates in the long run.
