My beardie is scratching at the bottom of the tank continuously. The bottom is glass and its a extremely annoying noise. I was thinking about putting some wood in the bottom of the tank and the soil over the wood.
But I was wondering if this is something to be alarmed about or if its a normal activity for beardies.
Not exactly sure why he would be scratching. Perhaps he wants to come out, or he sees something? Check the temperatures in the tank. If they're ok, then I don't think the scratching should be too much of a cause for concern. Anyway, I would also advise against using wood and soil, since many loose substrates can lead to impaction. I recommend tile, repti-carpet, or newspaper.
It couls be a she trying to lay eggs. Is the diggin continuous, with purpose, or a little each day?
Has s/he gone off food, looks bigger etc? I would prepare a lay box just in case. You could also post a pic of the genital/vent area to double check the sex.
