Hi everyone....well I have a situation where someone told me I could start to feed my beardie larger crickets and he ended up getting really constipated and I had to take him to the vet for the vet to help him poop because nothing I was doing was working...anyways, ever since then he will not poop on his own at all, and he will get constipated and only go when I give him baths and massage his belly. I don't think this is normal, and I am wondering if anyone else has the same situation where their beardie will only poop in the bath as well? I am wondering if something is wrong with his digestive tract, but It's over 100 dollars just for an x-ray and I don't have that kind of money right now so does anyone have any ideas why he may not go to the bathroom on his own anymore? He is 7 months old and the basking spot is 100 degrees and he has a Repti sun 10.0 tube and he never had a problem like this until I gave him larger crickets which of course once I knew he was getting impacted by them I switched to the small crickets. Any suggestions??
How often are you expecting him to poop? At 7 months, many dragons aren't pooping quite as often. My 7 month old only poops 2-3 times a week now. Some dragons also don't like to poop in their vivs. My guy hates when he does - I normally find him in the far side of his viv, covered in stress marks, when I get home from work on a day that he poops in his viv  If I'm home, he will always try to go when he is out and about.
Thanks for responding! Well, at this point my dragon isn't pooping even ONCE a week until I give him a warm water soak in the bath and massage his belly for about 20 minutes..he never used to mind going in his viv he had a special spot he went in but now he just keeps getting constipated and I am not quite sure if there is anything I can do about it...
Logan is 6 months old and poops once a day, sometimes he poops every other day or so. 99% of the time he will poop in the bath,as he hates it in his viv also! He won't even go near it if he does!!
Wow, okay, that's what I thought I had heard before, that some beardie's only poop in the bath. I think mine has got into that habit....I guess it's not a big deal except for the fact that it is a little time consuming where it takes a half an hour for him to poop and get massages from me, but its okay because I love him to death and will do anything to help the little guy!!
hi...remember to only feed your beardie what the distance is between his eyes. Anything larger might cause him problems. Daily baths are also a good practice. My dex loves the bath and 99% of the time he will poop in it. Some beardies like and some don't. Getting them in the bath at a young age is good as it develops routine.
Hello there! My 7 month old beardie Zep'lin prefers to poop in her bath too! I do notice she strains to poop so I started giving her worms coated in organic coconut oil to lube things up inside and down there. Since we staryed doing that she went from one poop a week to 3 and it seems much easier on her. Plus, she loves the coconut oil she will now eat it on its own.
Good luck!
