Ive just read a topic and it just said MVB gives Heat and UVb at same time. Im planning on switching to Repti-sun 10.00 soon. BUT11!!!11 I just read that topic and it acts like UVB bulbs dont give out both. Do UVb bulbs give uvb and heat or do i need 2 lights for my beardie?
with a reptisun you need a supplimentary bulb to provide heat.
you can use a halogen flood light from wal-mart, home depot or lowes... that'll heat the tank up while the reptisun supplies the uvb necessary for your pooper to process the nutrients in the feeders and vitamin/calcium dust
We have suggested in your other threads about getting either an infrared temp gun or a digital thermometer with a long wire and probe end. Have you found one yet? A 150 watt bulb is a LOT for a 55 gallon tank and the strip and round gauge thermometers you have now are only measuring the temp of the glass. What you need to know is the SURFACE temp and your thermometers could be off as much as 20 degrees. A picture of the Acurite digital with probe was posted in one of your other threads, do you have a Walmart near you where you can get one? You shouldn't even consider a MVB until you get a decent thermometer.
Are you ordering a Repti-Sun 10.0 strip fluorescent? What is the brand of UVB you have now, if you look on the side of the bulb, the brand and % of output will be written on it, if it is indeed a UVB bulb.

Hmm you now make me very concerned there is no Sticker on the bulb and ive been using this for about 4 months... Im not ordering on going to petsmart and buying it. 150watt is 2 much? how. When we went to the petstore thats what they gave us and its been working for 2 yrs.
They cant just give you a bulb and you expect it to have the perfect temps all the time, they need close and carful monitering. As we go into summer many of us switch down a wattage to make sure we dont cook our scaly friends. Measuring the temp is one of the most important thing we do whilst caring for these guys.
Wattages vary, but most of us use 40-75W house bulbs, this all depends on where you are in the world, what room their in, how hot your house is etc. There is not one wattage any of us use. I have only spoken to one person in Canada who had a 120gal tank who needed a 150w and got the right temps.
You really should try and get that digital thermometer today and see just how hot he is!
id buy them but my family is in tough times right now were only slowly getting what my beardie needs. and wal mart is super far away. It would take 45min-1hr 30min to get there and my parents are very busy.Im only 13 so i cant drive. ...
it dosnt have to be from walmart, try getting one on-line, or local pet shops should do them, temps are a vital part of taking care of a beardy so this is really top priority.
It isn't actually a sticker on the UVB strip bulb, it is actually imprinted right on it, the brand name and % of output, could you please take another look for us, check both sides of the bulb right near the ends.

You DO need to get a decent thermometer, it is a must. In the meantime, I would suggest you drop down to a 100 watt household bulb because I really think he is over heating which can cause rapid dehydration. What does he eat in a day including bugs and greens and how is his activity level? Does he lay right under the basking bulb?

Did you order a UVB yet, if so, which one?
we usually dump crickets in her cage and she goes and catches most of them but last time we did that she wasnt able to catch much only like 4/30. I tried showing her the crickets again and she only got 2/26. Im concerned if shes mistaking the beading as crickets and thats why shes missing. Greens i hand feed her every day about 1/2 a lettuce leaf but were switching to collard soon. Hes pretty active although im not so sure what kind of active you mean. Hes been standing on his basking tree enjoying his uvb den he usually goes to the cool side and lays there. Sometimes shell walk around and scratch on the walls. Just not as much as she used to tho. Im not understanding i only use 1 bulb and its been giving out heat and uvb.. I think . Its red . my inaccurate temps are usually 95-100 but she hasnt vented in a while is this normal? No i have not ordered a UVB bulb as im very confused. Do i need 2 bulbs? If so where do i put each one since FLourecent is very long. I think im using MVB because when we bought it the store ppl said its UVB but its also giving out heat. Now im very concerned because it might not be UVB. How would i know if its UVB? If this is MVB shud i stick with using MVB or shud i use flourecent and a heat lamp. How long can a beardie go without UVB if not a very long time then im sure the light is giving UVB but since i have inaccurate temps due to the stick on . it might not be giving out heat. Shes in the hallway and the thermostat is there. Not the thermometer the electrical thermostat and it usually reads 75. So i think the cool side temps are pretty accurate please reply quickly.
