No, beardies often do carry salmonella naturally so it's been there all along wherever they are sold. Back in 2014 there was a bigger " outbreak " where I believe about 132 people got sick, mostly children. I don't believe any deaths were reported then or now although there possibly have been ones that were unreported. But in the big scheme it's not that many people and the important thing is to be pro-active and always wash your hands after handling beardie, keep them off kitchen tables + sinks and it should be no problem. The kids getting sick are usually not washing their hands or being allowed to kiss them which should be discouraged.
