You were (still) right with not bringing it home. Accordingly to what I know, they are not only requiring the acid (that is used by people who keep them) but more ant-specific things that are not even well known. So, they usually die soon.
I'd not keep one, even with the acid available, if the ants cannot really be provided.
Yup agreed. I'm not a fan of wild caught pets. It's one thing to buy a captive bread, they were never free. But catching something that has know freedom and caging it seems wrong to me.

And this in addition, of course - even if everything could be supplied, just don't do it.

Right. And having a pet like a bearded dragon, even if not domesticated as much as a cat or dog, they are somewhat domesticated.

I sometimes had "pets" from the wild.
Some were insects, and providing for them was rather easy (beetle larvae for example).
Others were rescues (including reptiles), luckily in all cases such that can be properly fed, and also in all cases not having too serious health issues making them never possible to release. I could release all of them within months.

Yeah that's different. If your saving a life that's not the same as making captive

The zoo near me has a chuckwalla in it. That's the only way I'll ever see one!
I actually saw one in the reptile store the same day I posted that. Not for sale though, they can't sale native reptiles in Nevada. ( I agree with that policy). The one I saw was wild caught. I hope they release it back into the wild.

I hope they release her. They are so beautiful, their tail is so beautiful, and they look a lot like monitor lizards. Maybe they are a type of monitor lizard?

I had wondered about that also.
The one in the reptile store had a red band around it's mid section. It was gorgeous.
I may stop by there this evening, if so and it's still there I'll get pictures this time

I did a quick search, they are from the iguanidae family so closer to a green iguana than a monitor.

I really like iguanas too. I don't know why, but I think that sooner or later you will have either a monitor lizard or an iguana as a pet and a member of your lizard team. :giggle:

A Tegu, uromastyx, or frilled dragon would probably be my next choise. But a Gila Monster, Rock, Rhino, or Desert iguana would be a very strong consideration. The Chuckwallas are very much on my radar now also. I felt quite drawn to the one in the reptile store. It was up on the glass begging to get out like a beardie does. It's probably a good thing it wasn't for sale, I would have gotten murdered when my girlfriend gets back in town lol.

It seems that the Chuckwalla felt that she would be happy with you and came to you. It's a pity she couldn't be purchased. You would provide her with the best, I'm sure. And I think Christina would support your decision. :giggle:

Maybe, if I could survive the initial blast lmao 🤣
It's hard to leave them there when they beg like that.
The trick with Christina is, I have to get her to go in and see it beg. The problem is she knows I'll do that, and she knows she'll give in, so it's hard to get her to go in lol.

Then you really need the photo you were talking about... lol
How big do they get? Probably a big terrarium would be needed. I know roughly what an iguana needs, but I know absolutely nothing about Chuckwallas.

They're are bigger than a beardie by a little bit. Im guessing 6x3x2 ish.
Lack of room is the biggest reason I don't keep the bigger lizards. I don't have room for more huge habitats and I won't keep one in a habitat that's to small just so I can keep it. If I ever get to build on my ranch in Arizona I'll remedy that lil problem 😉

Yes, I understand you. I have an absolutely identical situation.

I can feel her staring into my soul demanding food
She was having a staring contest with a mealworm. I guess I never taught her to not play with her food, lol.
