So I am wondering what my bearded dragon baby might look like when he/she gets older. I know there isn't a way to know for sure since I don't know what the parents looked like. But his/her coloring is really intriguing me.
When he/she wakes up the coloring is way darker and as the day progresses it gets lighter and lighter.
Yeah it's difficult to get a decent picture of the little baby..he/she has figured out when I'm trying to take pictures I swear lol.
I've been reading that. When we first got the baby about two weeks ago he/she was mainly black and gray. Then a few days after being with us he/she started shedding and has developed a pretty yellow, red, brown, and tan coloring also some very pale green coloring.
Their colours become very dull when shedding, they are pretty miserable feeling while shedding. As adults their colouring tones down a bit, and is not as vivid as it can be when they were young and exciteable.
You'll know when he's happy as he'll show his happy colours especially in the side of the face.
I usually noticed my dragons color improved with age. I had orange, yellow, red, and green dragons. They all looked very similar when they were young. I had to convince people that the babies would color up as they aged. They usually did....
Aw thanks Rankins, she's got some bright orange coming through now she's shed again, so she looks like a subset and it's just the sweetest! I'm sure whatever colour beardiesmum turns it will be beautiful, looks like a very cute dragon x
I bet your thrilled with how the dragon turned out. Sometimes it's totally surprising the color changes they can go through. You can never really know how a baby will turn out unless you see the parents. Even at that it's not 100%...genetics are weird sometimes. I haven't bred bearded dragons in a very, very, long time but seeing really pretty ones (like yours) always makes me want to reevaluate my current reptile breeding goals to include them
Pickle, I've seen you post pictures of your guy before, and I still can't believe it's the same dragon! That's so cool how they change and develop as they get older! My girl Thane has brightened up a TON since we got her. She almost never shows her belly lines, unless she's really cold. Then I know it's time to end the snuggles and put her back in the tank!
These are all very good look'n dragons!
To answer the question about why Firsttimebeardiemom's dragon is darker in the morning and progressively gets lighter as they day goes on, they darken their skin to absorb as much heat as possible and as they get more comfortable they lighten up. In the morning she is cooler so, as the tank warms up she gets lighter, it is natural for them to do this.
Thank you both! And yes, Gormagon is correct. Thane starts out sort of dark then gets brighter as the day goes on too. She's gotta warm up in the morning!
