i know that in the uk collard greens are known as spring greens but i've still had some trouble finding them in the supermarkets.. i've read that they are used a lot in kashmiri cooking, does anyone know the kashmiri name? i know this may be a long shot but i live in a predominantly asian area of glasgow so if i knew the name my local veg shop may be able to get them in for me..
Collard greens are really easy to get in the South in the U.S. I have grown them. As far the kashmiri greens from what I've seen it's called that but they are still just collard or mustard. If you can get Asian produce Bok Choy greens are good. Just the green part
thanks for the reply but i live in glasgow scotland and they dont seem to be as popular or as easy to get a hold of here... the reason i asked for the kasmiri word is that there's like 5 indian/pakistani greengrocers on my street.. they're always really helpful but sometimes there's a wee bit of a language barrier.. like the time i was looking for sage (the herb) and kept getting handed saag (spinach) - not the same thing at all!! lol!
hey,
yeah, we've got an asda n every time i'm in i have a look but they never seem to have any.. think i've seen haak on sale in my local indian grocers just never knew what it was!! thanks, was totally the answer i was lookin for! just hopin the wee beggar'll eat it.. he seems to be really fussy with his leafy stuff, got turnip greens today n he just wanted his nose tickled with it! no interest in actually eatin the stuff!!
Your welcome, asda have them in bags of ready cut spring greens near the cabbages and stuff- suppose not every asda will sell it. mines the same with her greens- she's so fussy- a complete diva!
yeah, corinthian seems to be the same - only loves the stuff thats not too good for him (typically scottish some might say!), brocolli carrots yes.. leafy stuff nope! he loves his crickets but when i spilled some on the floor the other day i sat him down next to them hopin he would save me from touchin them and he just looked at me as if to say 'i'm no eatin those, they didn't come out the box!' lol when i tried flickin them at him whith a spoon he just tried to lick that!
