my little guy has Coccidia, and I have read that you need to keep their enclosures really clean while they recover. I am looking for suggestions as to what to use for his basking area. I currently have a purple slate slab that he loves to lie on, but obviously thats going to have to come out. what can I put in there that will be easy to clean/replaceable each day??
My dragon is also on medication at the moment for the same reason, the vet said he has multiple parasites, more than 3 that have eggs! I freaked out, I'm giving him 3 different kinds of meds + a pro-biotic. The vet said he most likely got it before I even got him, since the parasites have been there for long time.
I'm not sure what to do other than give him his meds and all but I noticed he likes it extra warm since he got sick, and is always basking.
He is 7 months old.
His hot end is 110F and cool end is 75-80. So that is just fine for now. I assume your lil guy will need the same range of temps, but not over 115F. Also give him lots of oral fluids, more than you usually do. Are you giving him pro-biotics?
I'm not giving him anything yet. I had his faecal done with a lab, so I haven't seen the vet yet. I'm booked in for tomorrow, so if he does have meds it will be from then
I've read that coccidia is fairly hardy, and that you need to keep your cage extra clean to prevent recontamination, so I was trying to prepare for that really :?
how do you keep his viv? do you have substrate you can remove every day? what about furniture?

His substrate is and always has been cardboard paper, I sterilise his furniture once a week, I put all the wood in the tub with boiling water, and add a bit of bleach or clorox, let it soak for an hour, then drain and scrum all the chemicals away, and then just to be safe, I re-soak everything with hot water... The final step is to bake them in the oven for 20 min. I can't bake all his furniture, since not all are made out of wood.
As for his tank, I scrub it and sterilise it as well, and make sure no chemicals are in the tank when I put him back in.
AND, what I believe is quite important is that I always make sure I clean him after his poop and change the paper. I'm too careful even more now that I know he has parasites in him!
My vet prescribed him with Septrin for cocidia with probitocs.
