So my 6 year old beardie is a free range dragon. He has a whole set up on the living room which has expanded to a big part of the living room. He has been this way since March. The dilemma is his "area" is in the Christmas tree area.
Our living room is kinda small Sm so that really the only place to put it.
Would you move him over and put the Christmas tree there or find another spot for the Christmas tree?
Let him enjoy exploring the pile of presents and the tree (so long as there are no decorations on it that are small enough for him to actually ingest.
When we had a full sized fake xmas tree, we let our beardies and bluetongues investigate it, even the resident wild water skinks seemed interested ( they were seen checking out reflective balls dangling from the branches ) …. Xmas is mid summer here .
If you must keep him away from the tree and presents , some Perspex sheets cut as long rectangles about 12" high will likely be enough of barrier to keep him at bay.
Do you use a real tree or a fake tree? Either way setting up a barrier like kingofnobbys said or using an enclosure when you are not home to supervise would be safest.
A real tree will have sap if he climbs the tree. I would worry about toes getting stuck together by sap or other toe/nail damage from sap.
Fake or real there might be risk of him eating real or fake pine needles. More so for a real tree since those fall off the branches.
Easiest solution would probably be to find a new place for the christmas tree, or a new place for him to roam.
Just throwing another idea out there - what if you placed the tree on a taller stand such as a box of sorts that he could not get up onto. This would keep him away from all the issues the tree might pose, besides the presents.
If it's going to be a fake tree, I probably wouldnt worry too much about it just watch to see if he is gonna try to eat the fake needles.
Most of my guys have loved the christmas tree. It was Cooper's favorite in particular. Keep an eye on him but if he is interested let him check it out.
Tampico was so curious about my little Xmas tree. I let her lay in it for a while. She loved it. They're curious little buggers. I'd say to let him check it out. If you're nervous about it still, then I'd put up a barrier when you're not home.
Awe they are all so cute.
We have a fake tree. I'm not really worried about him messing with the tree. I'm more worried about moving his stuff he is free range and his whole set up takes up that part of the living room.
He tends to be a little territorial if you move his stuff.
