My beardie has a big stone slab for basking on. Ever since we put it in there he bites it. He's not biting bits off, but he looks like he's giving it a damn good try! You can hear his teeth grinding on the stone. Do they all do that? Could there be a reason for it?
Mine only does that to one stone. Of course, I removed it because I didn't want her getting hurt.
I think it might be because it has either 1) some fish scent leftover or 2) some leopard gecko scent.
Have you used the stone for anything else?
The stone is just a normal grey/beige kind of colour, when we brought it home we boiled it so it was totally clean - it was just found outdoors. I put some new stones in there yesterday from the beach (boiled as well) and he had a nibble of those but not as bad. His mouth seems ok though, when he started doing it I checked all over and inside to make sure he wasn't scratching himself. Should I take it out?
Hi there,
Miso is a big fan of "killing" anything that comes into her viv. She spent the first few days biting her basking rock to make sure it was dead, and then when we tiled her viv she spent a day trying to eat the floor... which is quite the sight to see!
She dropped it after a couple of days.
If it continues longer than about 5days/a week I would remove it.
