Unless your beardie can get really close to the bulb under the screen is better. If they can get within 4 or 5 inches oh the bulb I'd put it above the screen.

Is this acceptable to let him be 4-5 inches that close to the UVB? Since the UVB should be near the basking light, he will be so close to the basking light as well, won't he get burnt?

Too close- you want distance 12-15 inches - set up a different basking spot for uvb- he will go to the light he needs

Hi I found this guide from Arcadia website but still wish to double confirm, for a 16.5 inches tank, to mount the UVB below the mesh top inside tank, I should be getting T5 12% UVB not 14% right?

Hi I have installed the new Arcadia T5 12%, but I have one question here : when my dragon lie flat or slightly lifted his head, his head distance from light is within 12".. however if he lift his head high the distance will drop to 11".. does this matter? If it does I need to find a way to lift the mesh top (light hanging below it) which will be a big project

Your dragon should be fine. Alternatively you can offer different basking heights and your dragon will chose what it needs.

Arcadia also have flickers, my dragon still go hiding and doesn't want to come out in the morning.

How long had the light been on? I see that sometimes on cold start up, but it stops after the bulb warms up a bit. I've noticed it most often on brand new lights also. Seems like after a few days of use they settle in.

The whole set is installed on 26th night, I started using it on 27th.. it has been on for few hours before I take the video. I really dono how can I supply UVB to my dragon, he always scared of it, when I switch it off, he becomes calm.

If you've tried multiple bulbs/fixtures at this point, try a different outlet on a different circuit. Maybe you have some type of voltage issue in that specific outlet? If it's the circuit itself, you'll likely need to go to another room completely to be on a different circuit. Bathroom GFCI's are typically their own circuit.

Actually I can't afford to try multiple bulbs and fixtures, due to Arcadia and Reptisun brands are not available in my country. This set is ordered from eBay and posted all the way from US to my country, so no exchange and return supported. I am relying on the brand quality however it still doesn't help my dragon 😥

I have also tried other outlets in my house including upstairs and other rooms, it still flickers

At this point I'm not sure what else you can try 😔 the only other thing I could think of is maybe some kind of inline rectifier to smooth put the power supply, but I don't even know if something like that is available for a.c. current 😔
Maybe one last suggestion, if you can get a mercury vapor bulb they provide full spectrum light. That might not flicker like a ballasted bulb.

Try as mentioned a different outlet see if that corrects the problem -- that is annoying when this happens and you dont have access to getting it corrected and a pain in the a** to get it all together --the only thing about MVB is they need to be changed out every 6 months and they are spendy to begin w/ - the bulb would need to be unobstructed in order to get the full UVB rays as well - you said it was shipped from the states? Did you try these websites Leading Online Reptile Shop | Next Day Delivery | Internet Reptile or this one Swell Reptiles - The UK's biggest online reptile specialist

Unfortunately, mercury lamps also flicker. This can be seen if you look at the light of the lamp through the lens of the phone camera. By the way, the mercury lamp has a ballast, it is built into the lamp (that's why it is larger than a regular halogen lamp). But, to make sure that the home network is not at fault, you can try using a computer uninterruptible power supply.

Yeah I remembered that they also have a ballast after I posted that. It's been a long time since I've used one.
So the computer uninterruptible power supply smooths out power flow? That's interesting to know. I've never used one so I don't know much about them. If that's the case that really is valuable information 🙂👍

Hey! I'm planning on ordering a 4x2x2 for my next beardie but I'm worried about lighting. I have a UVA and a UVB but they are small (the UVA just being a bulb and the UVB being 12 ish inches?) My house is drafty so I need a strong light that puts off quite a good amount of heat, any suggestions?
cookie event at my library today, quite fun! Made some bracelets for my comrades too, to give them at church in the morning. Got a busy day tomorrow even though I’m off work… i go back on tuesday so atleast I’ll have 2 days off to rewind….then back to hell lol
