When we got our dragon, the guy said greens everyday and feeders every couple of days. Then he went into a shed, and stopped eating almost completely. We tried everything to get him to eat. He is nearly at the end of his shed (just the tip of his tail is left) and his eating has picked up, somewhat. He is about 14 in. head to tail. I give him greens every morning (collard, mustard, turnip, kale, escorale) and he barely touches them, if at all. I offer pheonix worms everyday as well. He will eat about 30 med. worms in about 10 min. and then wont touch them for a couple of days. He will eat even less crickets and then again, not eat for a couple of days. He poops regularly. hes in a 40 gal. breeder with a 2-in-1 uvb/heat flukers compact bulb. temps are around 100 F (basking) and 80 (cool). Is he just not hungry? should i feed him less in one sitting to get him to eat more over all?
Don't worry, many many many bearides go off thier food while they are shedding. His eating habits should pick up once he finishes!
Then again, some beardies also pig out while shedding. .they are all different.
You say he has a compact bulb? Thats gotta go man! They cause eye problems and other problems too. Better off getting a tube UV light for him, ReptiSUN 10.00 or. . ArcadiaD3 I think it's called are much better choices. Temps might be a little bit off, I'm pretty sure it should be around 110ish hot and 78 cool. ( I could be wrong my temps are differnt in aussie land lol.)
I do know for sure that the coil light has to go though!
But yes, you say his habits are improving now hes coming to the end of his shed, then I think shedding was why. :3 He should be back to his normal self soon.
thanks venom. his eating has picked up quite a bit. hes going thru 500 med-large pheonix worms a week. so thats a little less than 100 a day. he still wont eat more than once a day, every once in a while, hell eat twice a day. he wont touch greens at all, which has me a bit concerned, but he seems to be happy and healthy.i also just discovered a trick to get him to get vitamins. he LOVES goliath (horn) worms. and as much as he hates the vitamins, he just cannot resist the worms, lol. and now hes going into another shed! hopefully his eating will stay consistant. As far as the bulb, my hubby is building him a custom viv which will have a tube uvb bulb, and a different source for heat (i mean a different bulb, i know no heat rocks, etc.). I read the part about lighting after we had already purchased the compact bulb and soon after, my hubby started on the tank. so hell will be in more optimal conditions really soon.
