Ok for the first 3-4 days my basking spot stayed at a nice 106-108. Now all of a sudden today it keeps jumping to 115!! I've moved basking spot down lower but it's still getting too warm. It takes about 3-4 hrs though before it gets too high. Could it be because I'm using bricks? Do they continue to get warmer?
Awesome tank! If they're fire bricks, they do retain heat. Regular bricks might to some degree. You may have to reduce the wattage of one of your bulbs (I think some people use a dimmer of some sort to help control higher watt bulbs?). My tank was staying 95-100 in the basking spot and 70-75 on the cool side with one par38 60watt bulb. I added a second 60watt par38 over the cool side and brought my Temps up to 105 on the basking spot and 80 on the cool side so reducing one bulb may possibly be all you need.
